A letter from: PDG Marie Petraitis - LCIF District Coordinator

OCTOBER 2011

WAYS TO GIVE!

For over forty years, LCIF has relied on the donations – donations from Lions Clubs and donations from individuals to carry out its humanitarian work. Donations make possible LCIF’s worldwide efforts to restore sight, provide disaster relief, support youth and support other humanitarian needs.

When Lions Clubs and individuals give to LCIF, all contributions make a difference because 100% of every donation goes to LCIF’s projects. All administrative costs are paid through interest earned on investments. LCIF does not receive any part of club dues.

Of course, I am encouraging all of the clubs in District 20-S to donate and the easiest way is to donate $1,000 and honor a member with a Melvin Jones Fellowship or a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellowship. However, individual members can also contribute to LCIF. It’s not that they are honoring themselves, but they are supporting all the wonderful ways that LCIF works – as I said, all of LCIF’s efforts to restore sight, provide disaster relief, support youth and carry out its humanitarian work.

One way to donate is online. Donating online is easy – simply go to LCIF’s homepage, click on “Ways to give”, then click on donating “online” and follow the instructions.

In the November article, I’ll talk about “Other Ways to Give” and the different “Recognition Programs” of LCIF.

LCIF IS ALWAYS THERE TO HELP!

Sincerely yours in Lionism,

PDG Marie Petraitis

LCIF District Coordinator

Lions that have joined us in previous years with volunteerism or making a donation have been able to help improve VCB for the future. With Lions support and commitment we can do it. You can like VCB on FaceBook by clicking on:

www.facebook.com/VISIONSVCB

You can see the pictures from the 85th anniversary with Lions from MD20, and share it with your fellow Lions.  VCB needs the Lions Club support, for example:

Programs (i.e. water sports, technology, classes, etc.)

This past summer we served 31 families with infants 3years or younger who are blind and visually impaired. Many Lions clubs from MD20 contributed to allow them to attend for free.

Accessibility (i.e. widening door ways, repairing ramps and wheel chair lift)

VCB serves over 500 individuals some of whom are adults who have multiple disabilities in addition to their blindness.

Environment (i.e. 'grounds work, paving, shrubbery, electrical repairs, etc.)

Lions and volunteers are always involved in upkeeping, cleaning and organizing VCB, this was especially true after the damage of hurricane Irene last month.

Kitchen Dining Areas (i.e. equipment, appliances, facility repairs, etc.)

Each building is adopted by a Lions Club that is committed to maintain it by volunteering on work days, or making a contribution.

please let me know how your Lion’s club can help. Can you refer a participant and/or give a scholarship, VCB is a residential vision rehabilitation and training center adapted to meet the needs of people of all ages who are blind and people with multiple disabilities. VCB specially designed facility allows freedom of movement and independence that Lions are a big part of.

Or other options include volunteer work days, and I can work with you and the your club on arranging a day and a project beside the upcoming work day if you want, or if you want me to come and present to the members of your club, it would be my pleasure to explain how your support makes an impact on the lives of our participants.

Yours in Service

Lion Khaled
